Trance.. Generalize Distort Delete Associate

Category fitting ready for retrieval under stress

Nlp – neurolinguistic programming – states that after processing any information the brain (RAS – reticular activating system – in specific) tries to store the information by (in any of these categories)…

  • Generalization – does the information fit in any existing category, if not than what is the general stretch of the information.
  • Deletion – does the information fit in any existing category, if not than what can I delete from the information to fit in any category.
  • Distorting – does the information fit in any existing category, if not than what twist do I have to make to make the information fit.

… and add a description in the ‘information retrieval system’ in order to retrieve the stored information.

These are the traditional ways to make any information ready for retrieval. I feel the need to add one more criterium to sort by and that is …

  • Association – does the information fit in any existing category, if not than where does the information make a bell ring.

The latter addition suggests information is stored in related areas of past experiences, whether they are… good, bad, painful or fearful.

This also means that people have yet another valid mode of trance to slip in when they experience trance as a mode of survival.

The Information Retrieval

The aim of this ‘information retrieval system’ is to have ways to handle the stress situation at hand on autopilot… which is acting in a trance state while relating the situation at hand to stored information and similar occasions.
